In this week's employee spotlight, Kyle Gaw talks about being a social media marketing strategist.

Our social media team is one of the most close-knit departments at Brafton, and they’re passionate about the results they help clients achieve. Senior Social Media Associate Kyle admits it might be a “generational thing,” but he said he’s constantly surprised at how few marketers understand the differences between the networks they’re utilizing.

“I think that a lot of information gets thrown out there about the benefits of being on social but few break down what each network is good for,” he said. “What might work really well for one client might not work at all for another.”

With the lack of clarity in mind, Kyle has set out to keep his clients up to speed on the benefits of a custom strategy for each network. Lately, it’s meant traveling to share presentations on social marketing with his clients.

“One of my clients is trying to leverage social media to gain new leads. I did a presentation for their team, set up accounts on different networks, discussed the benefits of using Twitter and LinkedIn and gave some tips for them to use to find potential leads,” he said.

His social marketing network of choice?

“I’d say that Twitter is probably the most effective for both B2B and B2C clients,” he said.

Q: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I was a fat kid so, naturally, I wanted to be a chef. I think that this was influenced by two factors: My mom really hated cooking and I really loved eating. I was always more than happy to take over control of the dinner menu so I would get to eat what I wanted.

Q: What do you think is the most important quality needed for success?

Perseverance – when I first graduated with my undergrad degree, it took me a while to find a job. I found that you just need to give time to the things that take time and not give up on your goals.

Q: What do you value most in a job?

After working at a job that was done mostly from home, I’d have to say camaraderie. The social department is a great one to work in – everyone is really supportive and more than willing to lend a helping hand when needed.

Q: What is your most treasured possession?

I suppose my iPhone – it’s an invaluable tool when trying to settle a trivial dispute amongst friends.

Q: Which day of the work week are you the most productive?

I’d say probably Monday, I come in relaxed from the weekend and ready to get to work.

Q: What’s your favorite aspect of your job?

I like the fact that I have clients in a variety of industries. I’ve noticed that outside of work, I can hold a conversation on unexpected topics that I’ve been reading about for clients.

Q: What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Oh gosh, this question makes me reevaluate every life decision I’ve made in life – who am I? Anyway, I probably would say that my greatest achievement would be successfully becoming a morning person.

Q: Have any “hidden talents”?

I am really good at getting things off of high shelves.

Q: If Brafton were a TV show, which character – from any sitcom, drama or reality show (of any time period) – would represent you?

Probably Jerry from Parks & Recreation.
