BIA Kelsey forecasts that social media ad revenue is undergoing rapid growth. By 2015, the firm suggests that social media will become core to internet marketing across industries.

The firm predicts that social media ad revenues will grow from $2.1 billion in 2010 to $8.3 billion in 2015, demonstrating compound yearly growth of 31.6 percent. BIA Kelsey expects display ads to be the predominant driver of growth, however other segments will also rise.

“Over the next few years, social media factors will become a core element of various ad networks,” says Andrew Shotland, associate program director of Social Local Media.

BIA Kelsey says its forecast does not look beyond paid ads to include other forms of social marketing, which will likely drive social spend even higher within the next five years. In fact, as Brafton recently reported, 77.5 percent of social marketers are increasing their budgets this year, with fresh social content serving as a focus.
