The latest data from comScore reveals that social media sites are reaching new heights in terms of the time Americans spend on networks.

There's a strong chance that marketers will find their audience on social sites. ComScore's recent post, The Network Effect, indicates that social networking accounts for one out of every six minutes spent online and social visits reached new heights in May.

Last month, Facebook boasted 152.7 million U.S. visitors – a gain of 3.2 million visitors over the previous month. Of course, as Brafton reported, other analysts say Facebook saw overall traffic losses in May. Still, comScore says Facebook now reaches 73 percent of the American population.

While Facebook drives the majority of social visits, LinkedIn and Twitter are also seeing steady growth. ComScore reports that LinkedIn saw well over 30 million visitors last month, showing nice gains since its IPO and 58 percent annual growth. For its part, Twitter boasted 27 million visitors in May – 13 percent annual growth.

Marketers should take growth in social visits as a sign that they can reach an increasingly broad audience via social media marketing – especially useful as Brafton has reported that social engagement drives sales.

Plus, Hubspot's State of Inbound Marketing report reveals that 57 percent of social marketers have found customers through LinkedIn, 48 through Facebook and 42 percent via Twitter. As social audiences grow, so do the chances that brands will find relevant social audiences.
