With the 2010-2011 school year in the books, students are turning their attention to the more pressing matter of relaxation and summer vacation. According to a recent report from Txtlocal, businesses would be remiss to let this mobile marketing opportunity slip by.

“More people than ever before are accessing information online via their phones and using them to research the best places to go for days out, or for fun activities,” said Darren Daws, managing director of Txtlocal.

For leisure and entertainment companies, in particular, mobile marketing represents a prime opportunity to spread the word about offerings and services. As Daws noted, these companies can rely on mobile marketing strategies to notify potential customers about discounts, promotions and other information for a relatively affordable cost.

“Today, businesses need mobile to support their overall marketing strategies and use messaging as the main force driving customers to the mobile internet sites,” Daws added.

Mobile marketing has also proven to be a top priority for companies in the travel and lodging industries – especially during the summer months. As a recent TripAdvisor survey discovered, 27 percent of polled accommodation businesses cited mobile as a top marketing area.
