Kim's sharing how she became interested in animation, plus what it's like to work on a video marketing team.

Kim Zhong thinks all animators have something weird going on their minds.

She admits she’s not an exception – for her, it’s miniature objects. Despite sounding “freaky,” whenever she encounters something tiny, she imagines living in a mini-world, “kind of like toys that talk to each other in the middle of the night.”

It’s her keen imagination that’s been the inspiration behind her animations. In 2012, Kim returned to school for her multi-media design certificate, and she said it was at this time that her instructor introduced her to the world of animation.

“It was a life changing year,” she said. “From that time, I have been learning like a sponge and soaking up as much knowledge as I can.”

What’s her secret to success? Her fellow animators say she’s extremely dedicated, constantly watching tutorials for different software, like Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator. Plus, she finds inspiration in her teammates.

“I always look at others work and try to absorb what’s good in it,” she said. “I am so glad that I can work with a bunch of creative people.”

Proving her success – Kim was recently awarded the MVP title at our video team’s quarterly screening of their favorite projects.

“Her creative growth over the past six months, her ever expanding skill set, and her fantastic work ethic made our choice a no-brainer for the title,” Director of Video Product Perry Leenhouts said.
