The internet is littered with websites related to people in the hunt for a new apartment, but even in this recession one website says it has seen a traffic boost in the last six months with help from search engine optimization (SEO).

ApartmentFinder.com began as a print publication for people looking to rent and currently has publications in 115 markets in the U.S., but in recent years the company has focused its efforts on the web and says its online marketing campaign over the last six months has paid dividends.

The company says that it has created an algorithm to monitor trends in the rental market and uses that information to properly use search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) to increase traffic.

But the use of keywords alone isn’t helping ApartmentFinder.com increase traffic. According to the website, the use of original content is also drawing visitors.

"ApartmentFinder.com uses a strong combination of compelling content and search engine optimization," says the site. "These elements target markets at a granular level so the information being shared is relevant and insightful."

Creating original content is one of the best ways to increase traffic to any website according to many experts. At this year’s SMXWest Conference search engine optimization (SEO) expert Bruce Clay told OBSNews.com that original content can boost traffic to websites and that getting original content into Google News is "worth its weight in gold."
