With a growing number of people heading to the internet as their first place to find information about a topic or company, one firm says businesses would be wise to incorporate a blog into their site to increase search engine optimization (SEO) and online visibility.

Peter Crisafi, vice president of dzine it, a New York-based website development and search engine optimization (SEO) company says that small businesses can benefit from a blog as it creates original content on their site that helps to draw traffic and potentially increase business.

"Search engines love blogs and the best part is, you can write about anything, as long as it is relative to your specific business, and it will give you a much needed [boost] among all of the major search engines," he says.

A blog can also help a company keep its customers current with what’s going on with the business as well as giving the public additional information about the firm, says Crisafi.

A number of experts in the field of search engine optimization (SEO) have suggested that companies create compelling, original content on their sites to increase organic search results.

Earlier this year at the SMX West conference, Bruce Clay told OBSNews.com that getting original content in Google News was "worth its weight in gold."
