The car industry has been struggling as the economy is causing more Americans to reconsider large purchases, but one Florida dealership says search engine optimization (SEO) has allowed it to increase sales.

Santa Fe Ford, a mid-sized Ford dealership in Gainesville, Florida teamed up with JP Automotive Marketing last year and says by using search engine optimization (SEO) techniques it has been able to show strong sales each month while dealerships around the country falter.

Greg Waitcus, vice president of Santa Fe Ford, said the dealership puts most of its marketing dollars into its online strategies and finds search engine optimization (SEO) is paying off.

"We spend very little money advertising our used inventory other than online marketing efforts," he said. "Currently about 72 percent of sales are coming directly from our internet marketing."

The company says it saw a spike in sales and floor traffic last month when its website began ranking on the first page for Google searches for a number of keywords.

Recently a number of different industries have begun using search engine optimization (SEO) to help increase traffic to their sites and boost sales.

Earlier this month VISIT DENVER, the nonprofit convention and visitors bureau for the city of Denver, Colorado teamed with a search engine optimization (SEO) company to increase traffic to its site and to the city.
