When businesses consider using search engine optimization (SEO) they are often only concerned with how their company performs on Google, but recent statistics show that it might be a good idea to look at what’s going on with one of the newest players on the search engine market – Bing.

According to Microsoft, Bing saw an 8 percent increase in unique visitors to the site in June and a survey from the company found that the amount of people who said they would recommend the search engine to a friend doubled in its first month.

Meanwhile, statistics from StatCounter show that in Bing’s first month of existence it gave Microsfot an additional 1 percent of the search engine market, with the company holding onto 8.45 percent of the market during the last week of June – up from the 7.41 percent it had during the third week of May.

While Google still remains the 800-pound gorilla in the world of search engines (StatCounter contends that Google has 89.8 percent of the market), companies may be best served by making sure they are implementing search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and are achieving top rankings in a number of search engines.
