The iPhone is changing the way in which people view online content on mobile devices, and one search engine optimization (SEO) expert says it’s changing the way people look at SEO as well.

Although many people believe that search engine optimization (SEO) for a traditional computer is the same as SEO for a mobile device, Bryson Meunier disagrees.

Meunier, writing for search engine land, says that mobile web users search for things differently than their more traditional counterparts which will require marketers to use different search engine optimization tools.

"Doing keyword research for mobile users is mobile SEO, and it’s relevant today for both mobile sites and desktop sites that want to be more relevant to mobile users," says Meunier. "As long as searchers continue to enter different queries on mobile devices, mobile keyword research and content optimization – one aspect of mobile SEO that is not covered by desktop SEO – will not become obsolete."

Attracting mobile customers will become important in the future as more people use mobile devices to access the internet. According to a report last year from Juniper Research, the number of people accessing the internet on mobile devices will jump to 1.7 billion by 2013.
