Google was once again the most visited search engine in the US last month, a new study has revealed.

Research by internet information provider comScore has shown Google possessed more than 58 per cent of the search market in December, with 5.6 billion core searches carried out by users.

Yahoo! had the second largest share, at 23 per cent, which is an increase of 0.5 per cent on the previous month, the study revealed.

In total, Americans made 9.6 billion searches last month. Although this is a decline on November’s figures, comScore reports that this is a normal seasonal trend as many people are traveling.

Recently, comScore revealed that Google websites had the largest share of the online video market, with three billion of the 9.5 billion online videos viewed in November accessed through the search giant’s sites.

It discovered that more than three-quarters of internet-enabled Americans are watching video online, each averaging 3.25 hours of viewing a month.
