Experian Hitwise's most recent report found that Google's web search market share is currently at more than 66 percent, but Bing-powered search increased three percent in August.

Experian Hitwise reported on Friday that Google accounted for more than 65 percent of web searches in the four-week period ending on August 27.

While Google still maintains a healthy market share, Bing-powered search gained 3 percent market share compared to the previous four-week period. Yahoo and Bing accounted for more than 28 percent of web searches.

As Google has become the primary player in search in the last decade, some wondered if other companies could make up any ground in the market. However, Bing’s partnership with Yahoo has expanded Microsoft’s search reach and proved a legitimate challenger to Google.

For businesses turning to content marketing, Bing’s growth means that certain elements of SEO strategies must consider multiple engines to ensure a successful campaign. Brafton has shared some Bing SEO tips in the past. Additionally, a presence on Twitter could prove especially valuable for brands looking to gain a Bing presence. Brafton reported Microsoft and Twitter agreed to extend their partnership last week, and links shared on the microblogging site may have a more important role in Bing SERPs.
