Although there are a variety of new ways to potentially increase the search engine optimization (SEO) of a website – like blogging, social networking, etc. – one industry expert says that the time-tested foundation of SEO remains the same.

In a column for Search Engine Watch, Mark Jackson, president and CEO of Vizion Interactive, writes that there are a few common mistakes that many companies make when they launch a website or start a search engine optimization (SEO) campaign. One of those problems is not having enough quality content on the site.

Jackson writes that having only a few pages of content is not enough, and conversely, having numerous pages with little or no content won’t help with search engine optimization (SEO).

To figure out how much content a site should have, Jackson suggests seeing how many pages of content top competitors have or searching for keywords and finding which sites continually rank high for those terms.

Most experts agree that creating quality content is essential for any search engine optimization (SEO) campaign. A recent white paper from HRmarketer.com suggested that having this content on a company’s site can also increase the likelihood of getting quality job candidates.
