While the science of search engine optimization (SEO) as applied to real-time search is a field in its embryonic stages, disparities between the implementation of recent real-time search data deals among the major search engines could help shape it in the future.

Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land writes that Bing started out on top, beating Google to the punch with its Twitter search engine, which was released in mid-October. But earlier this month, Sullivan says, Google "pulled level" with the announcement of its integration of real-time data from Twitter into its main search results.

However, argues Sullivan, Bing provides a more complete set of real-time data to search engine optimization (SEO) professionals. The difference, he writes, is in the improved Facebook data that Bing integrates into its information, including personal status updates.

Search engine optimization (SEO) targeting real-time results is a relatively new phenomenon, but experts say that the mere fact of real-time’s presence on the major search engines is enough to affect usage rates. Properly integrated, Bing’s real-time data could prove popular enough to shift the balance.
