For a number of years one popular office supply company has called back-to-school season the "most wonderful time of the year" and with many people going online to buy supplies retailers may want to consider making sure their search engine optimization is up-to-date.

Back-to-school season is a rite of passage for most American children and forces parents to dip into their pocketbooks to give their kids the proper supplies to head off to classes come August or September.

But with many people turning to the web to save money, retailers may want to consider using search engine optimization (SEO) to make sure parents find their site when searching for books, clothes and office supplies

"Retailers today are challenged with effectively catering to more cost-conscious and internet savvy consumers," said Thomas Harpointner, CEO of AIS Media. "To effectively compete, retailers must implement more user-friendly ecommerce websites, email marketing campaigns, and search engine marketing campaigns."

Using search engine optimization (SEO) might be more important this year as consumers seem to be cutting costs more than ever. A recent study from Capital One found that 58 percent of parents said the economy was affecting their back-to-school shopping, with another 20 percent saying they would be spending less this year because of their financial situation.
