Given the amount of press and the level of enthusiasm surrounding the device, few are likely to still doubt the potential of Apple's iPad as an internet marketing tool. Backing up that notion with statistics, market research firm Net Applications recently revealed that the tablet now accounts for more than 1 percent of the world's internet usage.

This may seem like small potatoes in the totality of the internet. However, this percentage represents significant growth from only a year ago, when the iPad accounted for 0.27 percent of internet traffic.

Therefore, tech-savvy marketers may be inclined to utilize the device – and others like it – as a central piece of their mobile content marketing campaigns. In the United States, specifically, iPad usage is growing at a rapid pace, accounting for 2.1 percent of all internet traffic, according to Net Applications.

These figures are reflective of another recent report from comScore, which also found iPad usage is rapidly rising. As Brafton reported, comScore's report revealed the iPad accounts for 21.8 percent of all non-computer internet usage in the United States, while other tablets represent approximately 0.7 percent.
