With so much content on the internet, it’s sometimes difficult to differentiate from everyone else and get some attention, but SearchEngineLand’s Aaron Wall says one way is through using some less than popular keywords.

Wall says most companies in any type of industry are using the same keywords for their search engine optimization (SEO). A way to break outside of the pack is to include some keywords that might not be as popular or are even non-commercial keywords.

"These may not be short term money makers, but if they have less competition then ranking will be easier," says Wall. "As you rank for related keywords that builds a traffic stream that has the potential to convert or to link at your website."

In general this will help with boosting traffic and building the overall authority of a site, according to Wall.

He also suggests writing content that is from personal experience or information that is from a field outside of the industry.

As the search engine marketing industry is expected to increase in 2009, it might suit companies to use some untraditional techniques to help boost search engine optimization (SEO).
