With the pending Microhoo deal, businesses looking to increase their online traffic will probably be looking to make sure they’re optimized for sites other than Google. According to one expert, a new tool from Yahoo will help small businesses increase their search engine optimization (SEO) without the company having to do any work.

Recently Yahoo quietly unveiled Neighbors in a number of cities around the U.S. According to Search Engine Land, Neighbors combines elements of Yahoo Answers and suggestion boards allowing users to give suggestions on local businesses.

Matt McGee at SmallBusinessSEM writes that this new tool could be "huge" for small businesses, especially in terms of improving search engine optimization (SEO).

" .Yahoo Neighbors is obviously built with SEO in mind and there’s no reason to think these local conversations won’t rank very highly in the SERPs. They will," he writes. "And those conversation pages will have a lot of local, long-tail phrases – most of which are very easy to rank for, especially in smaller cities."

Recently in an interview with Advertising Age, Search Engine Land’s Danny Sullivan wrote that the increased market share that Yahoo and Microsoft would get from a proposed partnership would have companies optimizing different webpages for different search engines.
