At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco last week, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said that Apple iOS 5, the latest iteration of the iPhone’s mobile operating system, has greatly increased Twitter sign-ups from iPhone users. This suggests marketers can reach a growing number of users via Twitter marketing.

According to Costolo, integration between iOS 5 and Twitter is much tighter and has made using the social network easier. As a result, iOS user sign-up have increased three-fold. Businesses should be pleased with this development as Brafton recently reported that 50 percent of Twitter users are connected to brands on the microblogging site are more likely to make purchases with companies after following them.

Social media marketing campaigns are becoming increasinglyimportant as mobile users download applications for Facebook, Twitter and other networks more frequently.

Sharing links to articles and other content on an enterprise social media account can boost traffic and increase overall visibility of a brand. Brafton reported last week that the mobile social media user base has increased greatly in the last year. Currently, more than 72 million Americans access social media from their mobile devices at least once per month.
