Content marketing is expected to increase next year, and Brafton has reported that experts at ad:tech agreed that "good content is the heart of any site." In an effort to give due credit to the ample content producers on the web, Google has announced that it is experimenting with new metatags for Google News – syndication-source and original-source.

For marketers, the source attribution metatags potentially mean more credit for original, researched content. Publishers who want to claim their articles as original versions can use the original-source tag. Google also encourages journalists and content writers to use the original-source tag to report a publication that broke a story before they did.

Brands that syndicate content to other sites can get recognition thanks to the syndication-source URL. This tag indicates to Google which site should be featured in Google News.

The value of getting credit and being featured in Google News should not be underestimated by marketers. Google News syndication can help generate significant traffic to sites – the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press says more Americans turn to Google sites to get news online than the New York Times, Fox or the Wall Street Journal.
