There are a "significant" number of opportunities presented to marketers through the use of news sharing and blogs, an expert has asserted.

Lee Odden, chief executive officer of Minneapolis-based search engine optimization (SEO) firm TopRank Online Marketing, made his comments following an invitation to attend a Search Engine Strategies panel in London.

He argued that news search optimization, blogs and RSS created "powerful" opportunities for marketers.

"With so much emphasis on standard [SEO] the opportunities for smart marketers to gain a competitive advantage through the optimization of news, blogs and social media are significant," Mr Odden added.

The Search Engine Strategies conference will include discussions on managing reputations online, using blogs as an SEO tool and optimizing news content for search marketing.

Recently, Aaron and Giovanna Wallonline commented through their SEOBook blog that if content is compelling enough that a few reputable bloggers are driven to refer to it, then this can have a "cascading effect" as their readers share the information as well.
