Last week, Brafton reported that Facebook may be looking to advance itself in the search industry, but search marketers might want to keep their focus on Google. A report from Citi analyst Mark Mahaney suggests that Google will easily dominate the search market in 2011, reports Search Engine Land.

One of the key findings of Mahaney's report is that growing interest in Facebook advertising isn't detracting from search ad budgets. Also, SEO marketers will be interested to learn that Google is the No. 1 source of traffic for nearly two-thirds of analyzed web properties (26 out of 35).

Google proved the top traffic source for many of the top media sites studied. Nonetheless, Facebook's traffic to the same sites has increased in the past year, according to the study relayed by Search Engine Land. This may inspire marketers to treat search and social media as marketing efforts that go hand-in-hand.

In fact, Brafton recently quoted Google's Matt Cutts as saying in a Webmaster Central video that social media should be a top SEO priority. He advised a “holistic view” of search and social campaigns, suggesting that marketers should publish quality content then “tell people about it” with social media.
