Google has announced that the wait for Google+ business profiles won't be long.

Ever since Google’s social network was unveiled last month, businesses have had their sights on Google+ for social media marketing and content marketing distribution. Now, the company has announced the wait for business profiles won’t be long.

Christian Oestlein, product manager for Google+, said in a YouTube video that the response to the company’s Google+ for business applications has been overwhelming. Tens of thousands of businesses and organizations have applied for Google+ business profiles.

Oestlien said the range and caliber of organizations that have expressed interest in developing a Google+ presence has inspired the company to remove the limit it planned to set on the number of businesses that can be part of the initial phase.

“We’re bringing business profiles to everyone much faster than we previously expected.” he said.

He also mentioned that current consumer profiles being used for businesses need to make adjustments. (Some marketers have created accounts for their companies in advance of Google+ official business pages, and Google will discontinue these at the end of the month.) Oestlien encourages people at these institutions to designate a person to represent those pages.

If Google+ wasn’t already on marketers’ radar, the strong response to business page applications should be a sign that a presence on the network is a competitive necessity. Plus, it’s shaping up to be a platform that’s good for reaching a wide range of consumers. New comScore data reported by the Wall Street Journal reveals that Google+ has drawn 20 million users in just three weeks on the market.
