In part of its continued promotion of social search, Google is offering webmasters insight on how to add the +1 button to their sites.

Google really wants marketers to add the +1 buttons to their sites. In part of its continued effort to promote social search, the company has announced it will host a webinar on implementing +1, and marketers might want to tune in since the plugin may become an SEO ranking signal.

On its Inside AdWords blog, Google explains that the +1 button stands to deliver more (and more relevant) traffic to sites from search results and ads by way of user advocacy. (It might also boost search visibility as Google's Matt Cutts has hinted that +1 data could impact rankings.)

In the upcoming webinar, Google will help marketers with technical implementation issues, as well as best practices, advanced options and measurement. Cutts has said the +1 analytics will soon be available to marketers. Additionally, Google will offer Q&A.

The webinar will be held on June 21 at 3p.m., hosted by Timothy Jordan, Google developer advocate. Site owners can register and make sure they have the appropriate players in advance of the event.

As Google helps webmasters learn how to add the +1 button, it is simultaneously encouraging users to set up their Google profiles (which is necessary to “+1ing” content). As Brafton has reported, the company has created a “Me on the Web” service that rewards people for setting up their Google profiles.

Katherine Griwert is Brafton's Marketing Director. She's practiced content marketing, SEO and social marketing for over five years, and her enthusiasm for new media has even deeper roots. Katherine holds a degree in American Studies from Boston College, and her writing is featured in a number of web publications.
