Google yesterday announced that it would make a wide variety of development tools available to website makers, which experts say could make for more efficient websites and better search engine optimization (SEO).

The four main products that were released to the open-source community are Closure Compiler, Closure Inspector, Closure Library, and Closure Templates. Google says that the compiler can shake out dead code from Java apps, making them run much faster than before, and the inspector can help ensure that the apps are bug-free.

The library package contains a vast array of pre-packaged Javascript functions, which range from user widgets to server communication. Templates are just that: a set of pre-made templates for web pages, already optimized to run fast and containing numerous shortcuts to make them easy to program.

Better content, it is widely held, is the single biggest key to successful search engine optimization (SEO), and Google’s newly released tools could help propel adroit web designers up the search rankings and into prominence. Additionally, widespread adoption of these tools could produce better uniformity in code use, according to Search Engine Watch.
