Yahoo launched its redesigned SERPs on Thursday in hopes of providing users with a simple, more automated search experience, the company announced through its Search Blog.

Simplified results pages will help searchers navigate the pages faster and with fewer snags. While powering search with Bing was perhaps part of Yahoo’s effort to make results more relevant, streamlining the page layout enables users to find more relevant content on the page faster.

Furthermore, the SERP redesign includes tabs for web, image and image searches, rather than traditional text links. Users can add more tabs based on specific topics to locate relevant content. Ultimately, Yahoo’s effort is aimed at making search results customized to specific individual users.

The New, More Minimal Yahoo SERP

The dismissal of CEO Carl Bartz earlier this month led most to believe large changes were coming for Yahoo. While a few adjustments to its SERP hardly qualifies as a major shift, industry experts expect more to come.

Though Google’s dominance of the search market continues, Bing-powered searches, including searches on Yahoo, have gained some market share in recent months. Brafton reported earlier this week that Bing and Yahoo claimed more than 30 percent of the market in August.
