For many, April marks the beginning of spring. For some, the month kicks off the best time for TV gossip. Boob tube fans had a lot to gab about, as many stars of the small screen made headlines over the past few days.

Perhaps the biggest television news of the week came from the producers of the smash show Mad Men. After weeks of waiting, it has been confirmed that the show chronicling the life of an ad agency in the 1950s will return to television for a final three seasons.

Fans were disappointed when the Emmy-winning show failed to return this summer, but an additional three seasons is likely to lift spirits. In fact, a Google Realtime search for “Mad Men seasons” shows that viewers are tweeting minute-to-minute updates about the recent announcement.

In other TV-related news, Grey's Anatomy watchers were treated to an interesting twist on the show's usual format. This past Thursday, March 31, the characters of the program sang and danced through the episode. Fans are clearly amused as Google Realtime results show regular updates for “Grey's Anatomy musical.”

The episode began immediately following a car crash involving a character named Callie. The victim had an out-of-body experience, during which the surgeons flexed their vocal chords while performing surgery.

“Overall, the concept worked since music really has always played a big part in the show,” wrote one critic on TVFanatic.com. “Some songs were more appropriate and/or better performed than others, though.”

The queen of reality TV, Snooki, also made the news this week. She was asked to speak at Rutgers Universty – and if that isn't shocking enough, it was recently revealed that the school paid the coastal banshee $32,000 to speak, a whopping $2,000 more than Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author Toni Morrison was given to come to the school.

Journalists and bloggers have plenty to say about this – just hours after the news was released, there were nearly 300 Google News results for the phrase “Snooki + Toni Morrison.”

The announcement came shortly after the Jersey Shore reunion episode aired. The program, which was primarily a recap of the events of the last six episodes, received luke-warm reviews from Rolling Stone and New York Magazine. However, online entertainment enthusiasts seem to be fans, as “Jersey Shore reunion” produced more than 2 million web results.

Next week, entertainment enthusiasts might be taking to the web to keep up with the latest news on the Academy of Country Music Awards. The show, which airs this Sunday, will feature Chace Crawford, Celine Dion and a bevy of country stars.
