With so many people using the internet to gather information, many local businesses can benefit from using search engine optimization (SEO) to increase their online traffic and bottom line. One area of business that’s increasingly using search engine optimization (SEO) to reach potential customers is the legal sector.

MinnPost.com reports that a growing number of law firms are marketing their services after years of sitting on the sidelines and with so much emphasis on online marketing in recent years, many lawyers are increasing their use of search engine optimization (SEO).

Deb Cochran, marketing director for Minneapolis, Minnesota law firm Winthrop & Weinstine, told the news outlet that the business is increasing its use of search engine optimization (SEO) to make sure it is in the top results for people looking for a lawyer.

"More and more people are using search tools and searching for legal representation on the web," she said. "So we’ve really focused on introducing more search engine optimization into the technology we’re using. It helps people who are looking for a lawyer with specific expertise, and it’s a great way for people to learn about individual lawyers."

In a piece earlier this year for the Legal Intelligencer, Gina F. Rubel wrote that some law firms have been shortening their names at the advice of marketers to give them better search engine optimization (SEO) and online marketing appeal.
