Google is planning to partner with satellite TV provider Dish Network to test a search service for TV shows, according to anonymous sources quoted in the Wall Street Journal.
The sources, according to the Journal, say that "the service, which runs on TV set-top boxes containing Google software, allows users to find shows on the satellite-TV service as well as video from web sites like Google’s YouTube, according to these people. It also [allows] users to personalize a lineup of shows, these people said."

The service could be a complement to the company’s fledgling TV advertising business, and PC World’s Mark Hachman speculates that Google’s involvement in the medium could lead to a more open user experience, as the TV companies gradually open up their hardware to delivering new services .

Experts say that the integration of TV and the internet will cause a fundamental shift in the practice of search engine optimization (SEO), and SEO professionals could need to learn an entirely new skill set in order to be effective with the new medium.
