There are as many search engine optimization (SEO) techniques as there are types of media, according to Ron Jones in a column for Search Engine Watch.

Universal or blended search, Jones writes, demands rich caption text and alt text for photographs, which can improve a user’s experience with the site. Additionally, keeping various types of content highly relevant to each other on the same page is a key factor in search engine optimization (SEO), according to Jones.

Video content uploaded to the internet at large can also improve the SEO levels of a website, says Jones, provided that all of the videos are appropriately tagged and posted on popular sites like YouTube. He suggests how-to videos between two and three minutes in length to help build better search rankings for key terms.

News and localized content are also important areas for search engine optimization (SEO) professionals to take advantage of, say both Jones and numerous other experts. The rapidly increasing number of search channels on the major search engines offers a broad target surface for the savvy SEO practitioner.
