Online video startup Episodic announced in a blog post on Friday that it had finalized a deal to be acquired by search giant Google, solidifying the latter company’s commitment to playing a part in the future of online video.

Search Engine Watch describes Episodic as an "online video platform [which] lets publishers and marketers host, stream, measure and monetize their video content."

According to the blog post, "the Episodic team will join Google and continue its work to bring a great video experience to the web, mobile phones and IPTV devices. There will be no interruption in service for existing Episodic customers."

The company also announced that it would place a temporary hold on new customers. Interested parties could sign up on Episodic’s website to receive notification when the company was ready to accept new subscribers, however.

Experts say that video-based search engine optimization (SEO) is set to be one of the hot trends in online marketing in the coming years, and that organizations could look to jump on the bandwagon early.
