OneRiot, a social search engine, celebrated its first birthday last week by leaving the beta phase. The company is hoping that some new features will have a big impact on the search engine optimization (SEO) landscape.

The site has gone through some major revisions since it was first launched as Me.dium last year, reports ZDNet Asia. The biggest change is the addition of the "trending topics engine," which also officially launched last week. The trending topics engine searches public data feeds from social media sites, like Facebook, Twitter, and Digg, for content that may become popular.

OneRiot president Tobias Peggs told ZDNet, "80 percent of the search queries we see at OneRiot are users looking to track today’s trending topics."

Items are now listed in groups instead of individually. This change improves the speed at which a user can see what’s up and coming in social chatter.

Since the emergence of social media, search engines have slowly been working toward incorporating it into its results. Google recently launched a new Twitter search feature that allows users to view a timeline of tweets relevant to their query.
