A British-based cancer prevention charity announced Monday that it would be using search engine optimization (SEO) to bring itself nearer to the top of relevant search engine results.

The World Cancer Research Fund bills itself as a charity that provides resources for cancer scientists and for the public, attempting to spread the message of preventative care in preference to acute care. The WCRF cites some studies which say that up to one-third of all cancers can be avoided by maintaining a high overall level of fitness and health.

In a press release, the WCRF said that it recognized search engine optimization (SEO) as a smart, cost-effective way to boost its natural search results with Google and other internet search engines. Online marketing firm 4P won the contract from the WCRF to help optimize the cancer charity’s search profile. The WCRF believes that its website is user-friendly and effective, it wanted to make sure that the site was available to as many prospective viewers as possible.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is rapidly becoming one of the primary online marketing tactics. It is used by a wide variety of organizations, from major businesses and charities like the WCRF to small municipalities like Narooma, Australia.
